SK Design is providing civil-site design on this renovation of the historic Kansas City Star Building at 18th and Grand.  The project includes a new 2-story below grade parking garage on the south side of the existing building. Renovation of the Kansas City Star Building will bring life back to a previously abandoned icon with updates to the existing building by turning it into a multi-use complex including office space and a new market, all while keeping its historic stature.

SK Design is providing site civil services for the entire project including underground stormwater detention, site utilities and above grade parking on the north side of the building. SK Design will also perform site civil services for improving the existing right-of-way conditions with comprehensive streetscape plans.

These plans include improving sanitary and storm infrastructure, replacing sidewalk and curb along the entire block and installing new accessible ramps at each corner of the block. The completion of this project transforms this historic site into a new vibrant anchor in Kansas City’s Crossroads District.
